The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a 60-day extension to the public comment period for its proposed rule, Food Labeling: Front-of-Package Nutrition Information. Originally published in the Federal Register on January 16, 2025, the comment period now closes on July 15, 2025.

The rule aims to establish a standardized format for front-of-package (FOP) nutrition labeling to help consumers make more informed dietary decisions at the point of purchase. If finalized, the regulation could significantly affect how food manufacturers, importers, and private-label brands present nutritional content on packaging.
