Date: 08/23/25 On April 10, 2025, Provision Consulting Group's co-CEO Sung Kwon was invited by South Korean Government Agency to South Korea, Seoul and gave a presentation at the 2025 K-Beauty Global Insight Conference. The talk focused on U.S. tariff policies and how the K-beauty industry can respond to them.
Mr. Kwon outlined the potential impact of President Trump’s reciprocal tariff measures on the Korean cosmetics industry and presented strategic directions for how to navigate the challenges.
Mr. Kwon cited several key risks resulting from the imposition of tariffs, including:
Deteriorating profitability and loss of price competitiveness
Disruptions to distribution contracts and store withdrawals
Weakened brand positioning in the U.S.
Increased barriers to market entry for small and medium-sized brands
And to overcome these challenges, he proposed several countermeasures:
Expanding government policy support
Strengthening localization strategies in the U.S. market
Repositioning as a premium brand
Restructuring the supply chain
Mr. Kwon also explained, "Companies should reorganize their product lineup to focus on high-profit items and strengthen marketing activities to retain existing customers." He added, "Even considering the policies of the Trump administration, consumers will not easily turn away from Korean cosmetics due to the brand image and trust that has been built over time."
The presentation concluded with a strong emphasis on the need to see the tariff issue not just as a crisis but as an opportunity to gain market share.
